Bureau of Engraving and Printing Tour Hours

Bureau of Engraving and Printing, Fort Worth

See the entire paper money printing process from beginning to end at one of only two places in the country at Bureau of Engraving and Printing. Take a self-guided tour of two floors of interactive exhibits on the history and art of currency production. You'll see actual bills being made as you walk across an enclosed walkway suspended over the production floor. Watch the high-definition film on the process in the theater, or stop by the gift shop for souvenirs like dollar bill memorabilia or an uncut sheet of bills. Adults will need to bring an ID; the site recommends allowing 30 minutes to pass through security (although it rarely takes that long). • Truly loved how loved how this is for young and old. Once a year they have the Philadelphia Mint come and show the other side of how money is made. Great Experience.  more »
  • Awesome seeing just stacks and stacks and stacks and stacks and stacks of bills. We went before the year of the plaque (back in 2019) and it has been closed for tours since them.  more »
  • Attended a special event that allowed us to meet an employee from each department of the building and design our own dollar. Even without the event, the free guided tour would have been worthwhile...  more »
  • What a great tour to see how our paper money is made and managed. The staff was really friendly. Down on the production floor, the staff would routinely look up and interact with us while on the tour. At one point a gentleman down on the floor asked us to guess how much was in a stack that had just come off the printer, it was sheets of $100 notes and they were about three feet high. It was $16 million in one stack. Fascinating. Highly recommend this tour to help educate yourself and especially children about why money is something that should be managed and respected.

  • It was a little drizzly the day we visited the mint. There is a security lobby right off the parking lot where you walk through metal detectors. A trolley then takes you to the actual building where the money is printed. The self-tour is interesting. I never realized how much work went into making our money. I just figured a few copy machines and that was it. The people that worked there were very friendly and knowledgeable (except that they would not tell you how the money bundles were transported out of the facility). The only recommendation that I would have for them and for you, the visitor, is to use a sanitary wipe to clean the hand-held audio speakers that you hold up to your ear. You could tell that many people used them beforehand.

  • This place is my favorite place to visit in Fort Worth. There is a short 15-minute introductory film in the auditorium followed by a self-guided audio tour through the skywalk in the facility. The tour is well planned out. Very educational for all ages (it's NOT your typical "educational" places geared towards kids where everything is watered down and every square inch is covered in bright neon colors). The staff are always friendly. Aside from the film and tour, the rest of place has different stations highlighting interesting facts about the greenback from how you could tell whether a bill was printed in the Washing DC facility or the Fort Worth facility (the fort worth printed ones have tiny "FW" on them!) to how people could bring damaged (burnt, shredded, etc.) bills in and the expert staff would reassemble those damaged bills and give people their money back as long as the bill is identifiable (yes, you can see the expert working on a sterile looking desk painstakingly piece together the remnants). It's very cool. Oh, and did I mention it's free?

  • My family and I attended this establishment on a Friday afternoon. It was awesome. We all enjoyed the museum. Very organized and entertaining. Best of all is that it's free admission. There is a gift shop where you can purchase souvenirs. I will definitely recommend this place to my friends and family.

  • This place is by far a hidden gem in Fort Worth, TX! I remember coming here with my uncle when they were building this place. He was a truck driver dropping off some heavy machinery. The best thing about this place is its a free self guided tour! Gift shop at the end of your is worth paying for some souvenirs. If you're a collector they have some nice collectors items. The staff at the gift shop were friendly and honest because I almost bought the wrong thing. But she explained to me why and if I wanted to continue with what the price would actually be with the money paper 6x6 with the frame. Like all government facilities this place is locked down tightly and rightfully so. All electronics must be locked and stored in your vehicles. So DO NOT even try to bring them at the gate of the tour entrance. They will redirect you backed to your car immediately. They have restrooms readily accessible too. So if you have a little ones like I do that is great feature about this place.
