You can apply these rules to requite you some idea which form to use:

I can find the books = a statement (Red = personal pronoun - Blue = verb )

Can I find the books = a question (and should be followed by a question mark = ? )

Also:
'Tell me' = an imperative/an order.
Information technology is rude or agressive to follow an imperative with a argument.
This may exist advisable in a military machine setting, but non in common speech.

We tin can make 'tell me' more polite by turning it into a question:

Tin can you tell me where... ?

The dominion 'do not follow an imperative with a statement' is reversed for a question:
'complete the sub-clause of a question in the argument form'

This sub-clause is as well a blazon of wh- clause in grammar books.
You could besides await upwardly: subordinating conjunction of place

ist Clause ... Conjunction 2nd (Wh -)clause:

(Can you)Tell me ... where ... tin I/I tin find the books

I notice that mrr5052 has pointed out the way in which we tin can reduce the stress on 'tell me' to make it sound less impolite. Note that this is only in spoken English.
